1930 (MCMXXX) was a common year starting on Wednesday (dominical letter E) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1930th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 930th year of the 2nd millennium, the 30th year of the 20th century, and the 1st year of the 1930s decade.
Circa (from Latin, meaning "around, about"), usually abbreviated c., ca or ca. (also circ. or cca.), means "approximately" in several European languages including English, usually in reference to a date.Circa is widely used in genealogy and historical writing when the dates of events are not accurately known. When used in date ranges, circa is applied before each approximate date, while dates without circa immediately preceding them are generally assumed to be known with certainty. For example:
The U.S. State of New York has been known by many nicknames, most notably as the Empire State, adopted as late as the 19th century. This nickname has been incorporated into the names of several state buildings and events, and is commonly believed to refer to the state's wealth and resources. However, the origin of the term remains unclear.
There are several theories on the origin of the name. Two of them involve George Washington, one credits aggressive trade routes, and another associates the nickname with New York exceeding Virginia in population. None has been proven. One commonly accepted tale says that, when Washington was given a full map of New York prior to the Battle of New York, he remarked on New York's natural geographic advantages, proclaiming New York the "Seat of an Empire".
The origin of the term has puzzled many historians; as American writer Paul Eldridge put it, "Who was the merry wag who crowned the State ... [as the Empire State]? New York would certainly raise a monument to his memory, but he made his grandiose gesture and vanished forever."
The Empire State Building is a 102-storyskyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, on Fifth Avenue between West 33rd and 34th Streets. It has a roof height of 1,250 feet (381 m), and with its antenna spire included, it stands a total of 1,454 feet (443 m) high. Its name is derived from the nickname for New York, the Empire State. It stood as the world's tallest building for nearly 40 years, from its completion in early 1931 until the topping out of the original World Trade Center's North Tower in late 1970. Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, the Empire State Building was again the tallest building in New York, until One World Trade Center reached a greater height in April 2012. The Empire State Building is currently the fifth-tallest completed skyscraper in the United States and the 29th-tallest in the world. It is also the fifth-tallest freestanding structure in the Americas. When measured by pinnacle height, it is the fourth-tallest building in the United States.
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.

The man you see in this video is none other than Daniel Heriberht, most commonly recognized by his pseudonym "peppus". After creating osu! alpha 0.1 the press didn't believe in his abnormal skills, so he decided to video-tape a liveplay using a typewriter and the first prototype of osu!tablet, which was 100% made out of paper. With the arrival of WW2 he was forced to stop playing, this was the first occurrence of somebody having to quit because of the army. He luckily managed to survive after becoming very good friends with Hitler, who decided to then join his game by the name of "Loctavus". This video is also what we mi...

OUR GRANDPA BAKING PIES AT HIS RESTAURANT - NEW YORK NY ~1930 Friends and family- This home movie from ~1930 shows the process of baking pies at Van Dyk Coffee House at 80 Vesey Street in Manhattan. Our grandfather, William Whitman, Sr., appears at the very start of the movie leaning over the table rolling pie dough. He was clever. It was his idea to use the washing machine wringer to roll out the pie dough. He managed the restaurant, and later in the 1930’s owned the restaurant, renaming it Whitman’s Coffee House. The World Trade Center was later built at this site. The movie was filmed by my grandfather, William Whitman, Sr. The music is by my daughter, Anna Haas. I hope you enjoy, let me know if you recognize anyone, and please share widely. David *** NOTE: PLEASE VISIT haashomemovies...

Times were tough for African Americans in the South. Many were sharecroppers living a hard scrabble life in shacks and working endless hours in the fields. The Harmon Foundation was established in 1922 by William E. Harmon. It served as a large-scale patron of African-American art and helped gain recognition for African-American artists who otherwise would have remained largely unknown. Mary B. Likely saved through oral tradition, this 56 minute film from 1930, details an event which commenced the Ojibway Indians trek to the Barren Lands or Barren Grounds, in search of food and happiness. Silent Enemy (famine) begins with the Ojibwa Indians living far to the south where forests and lakes abound. They first commenced a southward migration but were forced to change plans. As a result of less game, the Ojibwe Indians agree to migrate north into what is the Barren Grounds of far northern Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Barren Grounds of far northern Alaska. They knew the caribou in the 100,000s, if not millions, left the forest to head north into the barren lands each spring and stayed until autumn.
